I'm doing crispr injections into zebrafish embryo yolks at the one cell stage.

My injection buffer containing the crispr construct contains phenol red just to make it more visible. However, when I inject the mix into the yolk, the mix turns almost black within a few seconds. The internet doesn't seem to know why. Has anybody experienced this?
