I have a plate subjected to axial tensile load in Y direction and I obtained displacements in Y direction in section 1, How can I get strains similar to the shape in the attached green curve from the displacements that I have?
I tried subtracting the difference between displacement in Y direction and dividing it by the original vertical length of the sample but still doesn't give any similar shape at all.
I would appreciate any help or suggestions.

To obtain strains from displacements, you can use the following formula:
strain = (displacement/original length) * 100
This will give you the strain as a percentage. If you want to obtain the strain in terms of engineering strain, you can use the following formula:
engineering strain = (displacement/original length)
To obtain the shape similar to the one in the attached curve, you will need to plot the strains at different points along the length of the sample. You can do this by performing measurements of the displacements at various points along the length of the sample and using the above formulas to calculate the strains.
Suganth Velumani Thank you but what I need is getting the strain in Y direction so in order to do this should I do a vertical section and get the vertical displacement? then divide it by the vertical difference in coordinates between points
