Steatosis , occurs in more than 50% of patients with chronic hepatitis C, that is related to visceral adiposity and obesity. Moreover, Weight loss in patients with chronic hepatitis C may be associated with a reduction in steatosis and abnormal liver enzymes and an improvement in fibrosis. So my question May weight reduction provide a proper response for treatment of patients with chronic C ?

Steatosis in Chronic hepatitis C is not only related to obesity but also to genotype 3 of the virus itself and simultaneous alcohol intake. Normally weight loss had a definite betterment of outcome in case of treatment with peg interferon and ribavirin [ Intern Med. 2015;54(24):3113-9, Therap Adv Gastroenterol. 2009 Sep; 2(5): 287–302] but has not been studied with DAAs given the very high response rates with DAAs across all categories of patients with only 3-6 months of therapy. Genotype 3 treatment can itself reduce liver fat and fibrosis but abstinence from alcohol intake is mandatory. However weight loss in obese patients can better the liver by decreasing NASH element apart from influencing treatment outcome
Obesity is a bad association always and in patients with hepatitis C must be treated before and during its treatment
