Definitely, we should not fold our arms in the wake of the fast evolving knowledge on SARS-CoV-2 mutation. Currently, a new British strain, B.1.1.7, sets off a scary alarm intensifying the threat of COVID-19. Even though, SARS-CoV-2 ; (1) has a slow mutation rate (2) belongs to a group of viruses with proofreading mechanism and (3) and that the current knowledge in designing the vaccine is centered against the non-essential region. Are these enough to relax that the available and upcoming vaccines can guarantee our safety assurance as a preventive mechanism?
