Recently, I had observed some of the oncology patients visiting hospital with Neurological emergencies. Here I am adding some of the neurological emergencies found in the daily practice. Please add some more neurological emergencies that can concur at any stage of the cancer patients for the sake of knowledge and better improvement of these patient.
eurologic Emergencies in Cancer Patients
Brain tumors, Epidural spinal cord compression (ESCC), Leptomeningeal metastasis (LMM), Stroke, Acute neurologic complications of cancer treatment, Paraneoplastic syndromes.
Sagittal sinus thrombosis could be fatal especially after asparaginase chemotherapy.
Many advanced lung cancer patients are at risk for stroke and if they are receiving thrombolytic therapy for intracerebral hemorroge. Leukemia patients on L-Asp treatment as well as patients with infections such as alpha hemolytic strep can develop multifocal thrombi. Meningeal leukemia can present wih seizures or acute vision loss. Some chemotherapy drugs can cause acute and severe CNS toxicity. Cranial radiation can be associated with somnolence. These are just a few examples.
