Although community pharmacy and dispensing pharmacy are basic role of pharmacists but the training and implementation of community pharmacy at institutional level is not well considered. I would like to know what may be the reasons behind for not having such things in the college, students often referred to local community pharmacies to get trained, but a institution has their own community pharmacy shop this can help the students to train and also can generate a trustful revenue to the institution.
That's really appreciable, But I want to know why the institutions and pharmacy councils are not initiating this system. Further, this problem observed in elsewhere. So, I would like to know what actually global pharmacy organizations are doing and how can they assure the quality of community pharmacy without proper training in the institutional level.

i am not sure about India but in Malaysia Universities specially pharmacy schools have their own pharmacy for training purposes and they have well maintained and special lecturers have to teach them Malaysia has very good system for hospital attachment training during the study period and also they have their own pharmacies to train.

Its Good to hear about Malaysian System, but in India the education system is getting commercial no body cares and tries innovative neither the management, nor the Principal and staff
This practice is fairly common here in the US. I can think of several schools of pharmacy that have the community/retail component as a part of the campus so that practical experience can be gained on site; however, most schools send the students off campus so they will have a more realistic experience - dealing with insurance issues, customer questions, etc. At present there are pharmacy schools popping up like weeds here in the US. There are several states that have as many as 4 pharmacy schools (Georgia). In addition there is an educational push for pharmacists to be involved more clinically in patient care - so they can practice at the top of the pharmacy scope.
I suspect it is an economic issue....largely due to set up costs, requirements for running and staffing and it is much easier to just send students out for placements. A good idea though. regards Shane

If the students are trained in own institutional pharmacy they can learn effectively and institution can take more stronger steps to improve community practice and make trustful practice. Many of the Pharmacies in the Major cities encourages unethical selling of prescription drugs. To bring a new generation and proactive the community pharmacy this can generate lot of huge scope with provided knowing the business logical issue for a pharmacist from the student level.
We have 4 New York state licensed pharmacies in our building (outpatient, compounding, research, and nuclear)
the role of a pharmacist in India is not very clear. Dispensing any drug was done at a time when there was formulations but not now.
First of all learning phase itself should be away from the comfort zone, the harder you struggle to learn then sustainability prevails. The question of training (community practice for the trainee pharmacists) within the campus or outside does not matter as long as there exists a structured training and a rigorous schedule under the mentor-ship of a well experienced and dedicated pharmacist.
Then the number of hours spent at the community pharmacy is another important aspect and the apprentice pharmacist should focus on all aspects : stock management,expiry management,controlled medications,medication fridge,cleanliness,insurance,computerized inventory management,record keeping,incident reporting,pharmacy legislation,medication counselling etc.,

In Iran, pharmacy colleges are linked with community pharmacies that are administered directly by regional food and drug deputy. Pharmacy students attend their internships at these pharmacies, improving their practical skills.
This is a very necessary part of the pharmaceutical learning process and should be provided in every pharmacy college.
The situation in Bangladesh is as same as in India. The profession of pharmacist here is industry oriented.
