I have isolated on black mildew fungi from Citrus sp.. The hyphae are straight, branched, without appresoria. Kindly help me to identify genus and also requested for some literature if possible.
Hi Ajay: The most common fungus is Cladosporium spp and Alternaria spp, but you should post a picture of the spore under the microscope so i can tell you what exact species
I have been finding that most of the sooty blotch fungi I have been getting from plants are undescribed taxa. There are genera around like Toxicocladosporium that older literature knows nothing of. Morphological fungal identification is dead, except in diagnostic routines where the same fungus comes up over and over. Sequence needed.
Ajay, what do you need? if you want identification it genus level, you should give some picture, but not, and you want identification it species level, you should give specific picture, information about colony etc. :)
I think many fungi can cause black mildew on Citrus spp., including Capnodiales, Cladosporioides fungi or Alternarioides fungi, so, You have to get and post some pictures such as conidia, conidiophores, etc..
Can you send me some pictures about the symptoms and hyphae that you have isolated, furthermore I could identify your mold, it amazes me that this is a mildew with a black color. Generally mildews show a white or gray color with hyaline hyphae.
Based on your description these kinds of fungi May be Botryosphaeriaceae species or Sooty molds on Citrus spp. thus for more certainty, its necessary to prepare microscopic images from mycelium and fruiting bodies of them. This will helpful in identifying them.
