Do you have any exceptionally positive or negative experiences with a given make of sliding-door fridge in your lab? We're shopping around and this is a bit too much of a niche item to rely on Amazon reviews.
Sure you want a sliding door? The only way to keep the door from closing once it's open is to block it with your arm/shoulder. This is risky if you need to keep plate/samples/whatever from jerking as you remove from fridge. For my money, you can't go wrong with a Helmer pharmacy fridge. They are reliable, have optional features that might interest you like sliding drawers. They also have great customer service.
The sliding door is my PI's preference. We don't have anything thing needs to be kept particularly steady as it heads in or out of refrigeration, so while that's a good point, it's not really our concern. What we do have is a constant turn-over of undergrads who could walk away from an open fridge door, so doors that shut on their own - sliding or otherwise - are reassuring. Thank you for the suggestion! I'll check out Helmer.
