Can photosynthesis be used as an indicator of viability in desiccated and rehydrated moss?

I have been measuring photosynthesis in mosses that have been desiccated and then rehydrated and comparing it to non-desiccated mosses. I am using a modified Wisconsin fast plant technique to measure desiccation and have gotten various results.
