I am working on laser cutting of CFRP(carbon-fibre-reinforced polymer) composite. Based on the experimental data, I have modelled the laser cutting of the CFRP composite sample in ANSYS APDL. I am trying to find the kerf width, both at the top and bottom of the sample. For that, I am killing the elements which are above 1155k(which is the decomposition temperature).

Problem: I am not getting a through cut, because the temperature at the bottom is not reaching 1155K.

Where am I going wrong? Open to all the suggestion.

Problem details:

Sample dimension: 1x1x1.4 mm^3, the sample thickness is kept the same as that of the experiment, but the length and the width were reduced due to limited computation resource.

Boundary conditions: convection heat loss from all the surfaces

Material properties: variable thermal conductivity, specific heat and density are taken as constants.

Laser specification: laser power:340 W, laser spot diameter: 0.2mm
