Am working on MCF-7 breast cancer cell line and I want to do in vivo study , Can MCF-7 produce tutor in vivo without estrogen implants?
Also, I have another model where the control group in mice didn't develop any tumour while the tested ones did, then I extracted the tumour r form the tested group and I generated a primary cell line and I want to do some biological assays , Can I use the wild type cell line as a control for comparison as I don't have a primary tumour from the control mice group??
Any publications or articles about that ??

Hi Faris,
In my opinion MCF-7 is a hormone responsive cell line, thus you definitely need to inject estradiol before implanting the cells. It can form tumor but may take longer time without estrogen. It also depends if you are using male or female mice.
I think the cells that you have isolated are mostly heterogenous as compared to the cells line you have used to form tumor (mostly homogenous), thus it may not be a right choice to use cell line as a control to compare with a primary cell isolated from tumor.

I my experience MCF-7 only form tumors when you put a estradiol implant pellet in the mice, same results with t-47D and BT474 cells lines. I was using NU/Nu female mice with ovariohysterectomy + estradiol pellet.
