The number of Mucormycosis( so called Black Fungus) cases are rising . Liposomal AmphoB is the preferred treatment for Rhinocerebral mucormycosis as it is less toxic than Deoxycholate form of AmphoB.
What is the maximum dose and duration of treatment? Any insight from personal experience of any researchers?

We usually administer Liposomal Amphotericin B for 4 weeks (5-10mg/kg/day) with an overlap of Posaconazole in the 4th week. At the end of 4th week, Ampho B is halted after determining the drug level of Posaconazole, and then Posaconazole is continued for 3-6months.
Surgery is planned depending on the progression, extent and response of the disease to Ampho. Needless to say regular monitoring of liver function and kidney function is performed. Havenot seen much liver or renal dysfunction with liposomal Amphotericin.

One of my patient is on LipoAmphB for more than 4weeks. I could not give it more than 5mg/kg/day because of availability issue. I have decided to give for 6 weeks. There is a small collection in frontal region. The neurocolleague decided not to drain it. Earlier orbital exenteration had been done.
