Which drugs are considered as safe to be administered during 2nd and 3rd trimester of pregnancy? Safety of several medications including methyldopa, some beta-blockers, CCBs are rarely challenged by clinical trials. No general consensus however, exists as yet whether if any of such drugs causes IUGR or not. The first line therapy for management of pre-eclampsia that is both safe for the mother and the unborn baby consists of either methyldopa, labetolol or nifedipine. Do any of these drugs increases the risk of IUGR? Any documented evidence?
