William Todd , Yes certainly there is a correlation between the two. Post Industrial development migration pattern has been different than what we observe in present times of Information communication technological advancement.
Land use for industrial development would be higher as compare to today's ICT based service industry. Labour too would need to be located around the industry whereas In case if ICT scenario is changed. It requires relatively smaller land parcels than Manufacturing units. The specialized ICT industry would house next to each other sharing technical knowledge and skilled labour force, at the same time people can work sitting in far away locations as well.
Demand of land has changed overtime, migration pattern is guided based on demand of the industry, ifrastructure requirements have enhanced at the advent of technology leading to high performing efficiencies. All of it put together leading to national growth.

Because of the durability of housing, land use patterns in central cities tend to be fixed for some time even in the face of economic development and urbanization. I guess land use patterns in the suburbs may be correlated with the current development stage.
Urbanization is a pervasive landscape process affecting bio-
diversity in all countries (McKinney 2002). However, there
has been little research on how the shape of the species rich-
ness–assemblage abundance relationship is affected by differ-
ing degrees of urbanization. Cities present an important
opportunity to test the generality of the more-individuals
hypothesis, as many rural–urban gradient studies have
shown lower bird species richness (e.g. Erz 1964; Hohtola
1978; Blair 1996; Rolando et al. 1997; Chace & Walsh 2006;
van Heezik, Smyth & Mathieu 2008) but higher assemblage
abundance (Nuorteva 1971; Lancaster & Rees 1979; Cam
et al. 2000; Palomino & Carrascal 2007) in urban areas com-
pared to rural surroundings. On this basis, it could be
expected that the hypothesis that communities with more
species have more individuals does not apply to these highly
human-modified ecosystems.
