I'm not sure if you are interested, but in The Netherlands we only have Harnischia spec. But they are from the Palaearctic. All other species mentioned by you are not European.
I collected Harnischia species in larval stages in Germany. Like in the Netherlands this is also the only taxon from your list occuring here. Can you specifiy your concern? Maybe I'm able to help. All the best, Thomas
Rheosmittia arcuata is only on record from Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina in the USA and is also known from the Russian Far East in the Palaearctic.
There are two subgenera in Lopescladius:, Cordiella Coffman and Roback with four species only one of which Cordiella hyporeicus Coffman & Roback is known from USA in Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Virginia - the other species in this subgenus are Neotropical. The subgenus Lopescladius has four described species, two from the USA -Lopescladius inermis Saether known from Kansas, Wisconsin and L. verruculosus Saether from Illinois and also from Mexico. See Saether 1983 in Mem. Am. Ent. Soc. 34. for more detail.
Audrey I recall collecting Pseudiron centralis from Chipola River near Altha, Florida, Escambia River above Highway 4 near Century, Florida, and Styx River above I-10 Baldwin Co. Alabama.
I've collected some of your chironomids of interest too and maybe additional Pseudiron centralis at other sites. You can check with Devan R. [email protected] for the sites of the taxa of interest. She has access to the aquatic insect taxa collected at monitoring sites in the FDEP SBIO database. - Donald
Very helpful and timely! Finishing this chapter of my dissertation next week. I will email Devan today and will make sure to acknowledge your contribution. Thank you!
Audrey I hope you got what you needed from Devan. I gave my Pseudiron (and Dolania) specimens I collected in the Alabama Styx River with Lisa Huff to her ([email protected]).
Glad to see you completing your dissertation, I'd like to read it when its complete.
Congratulations on your dissertation and thanks for all your contributions to science (I've read all your stonefly papers with Bill),
Perhaps this is long past your interest date, but I've collected Lopescladius spp in Florida from a stream flowing off the Lake Wales Ridge. Even John Epler is still just reporting FL Lopescladius as the genus with no species information. Has anyone been able to find a species name for Florida Lopescladius? Thanks!
