What are the chances that the developed MAb can detect two viral proteins simultaneously? The MAbs were raised against purified viral particles. During the characterization studies, some antibodies were reacted with two viral proteins on western blot. So, even if there are possibilities, what are the reasons that the MAb is reacting with two epitopes at a time? Kindly enlighten me with some information regarding this.

Hi Shyam Kokkattunivarthil Uthaman that is a very pertinent question. In fact, many studies show that some antibodies can cross-react with different proteins specifically when these proteins share similar/conserved/unspecific motifs.
This was shown recently by researchers from Ulm University by generating an antibody against a common chronic lymphocytic leukemia marker which later was shown to cross-react with another antigen:

These studies further highlight the need to assess the potential for cross-reactivity. This type of analysis can be done by performing epitope mapping using chemically synthesized peptide libraries. This will tell you which epitope your antibody binds to, and it will allow you to determine the risk of it binding to other antigens present in your analysis.
