My lab is looking into buying following histology equipment and I was wondering which company offers the best equipment, Thermofisher or Leica?

Tissue processor
staining or IHC equipment with cover slipper
slide labeller/ printer
cassette labeller/printer

In 2015/16 I was asked by the Toronto Western Hospital hospital to make a list of all equipments (where I was working before) and I invited quotations from several companies in which Leica and Thermo Fishers were among them. I talked to all sales person in detail. Also I called several colleagues around to get feedback. I concluded that Thermo Fisher was recommended. I will recommend Thermo Fisher. Let us see if someone comes with different opinion.
My answer to such questions is always; where/how do you get things repaired. Do you have to ship the units to some repair center or does a service engineer show up at your facility ? and at what costs ? Both company's equipment is fairly equivalent but costs and convenience for repairs is always a big consideration for me.
Leica instruments seems common and convenient for histological processing of the tissue. However, I would suggest to check the local service, maintenance for these instruments.
Our lab has had equipment from both Leica and Thermofisher, to be honest it all depends on what you are looking for and your throughput.
We currently use Roche and Sakura products in all the areas you mention, we just use Leica in cryotomy where we found the products to be much better. I would suggest asking the companies for a trial of their machines if there is something you are specifically interested in, we had a multitude of products in before our final decision was made. As others have stated also look at the after-sales service you get with any product, that could make a huge difference to your equipment downtime.
If I was personally choosing between just Leica and Thermofisher, i'd go Leica as I found there equipment more user friendly and a better after-sales service, but this is just personal opinon on the two companies.
