Hi everyone! In measuring optical properties of nanoparticle superstructure, it is essential that we know the gap distance between the nanoparticle. Does anyone know how we can know that interparticle distance? In my case i want to know interparticle distance of nanoparticle superstructure that was anchored in Membrane in a LBL assembly. Any insights highly welcome

Seems your system is fixed in space and not available for liquid 'dispersion' and this may rule out the second bullet point below
Anyway, you can:
- Measure the distances with some form of confocal electron microscopy taking care of agglomerates, aggregates, and the 3D nature of the problem
- Estimate the average inter-particle distances by other means - the most common being diffusion coefficient. See attached.
- Obviously the more concentrated the system then the closer the particles will be packed. You can calculate the number of particles per unit volume from a knowledge of their size (unknown) and concentration (of which we do not have information). Again this would allow some average guesstimate of the spacing

The technology of layer-by-layer membrane assembly involves obtaining a solid membrane. The distance between nanoparticles can be measured by TEM, scanning microscope, confocal fluorescence microscope.
