I am analyzing cell culture supernatant proteomics data and trying to exclude proteins that are exclusively cytoplasmic in all human cells since non-secreted proteins might be released by apoptotic cells in the cell culture supernatant. This would be helpful in getting rid of any background; however, my culture had high cell viability.
Does anyone know about a website that can help me determine or provide info on whether a particular protein is secreted or not?
The UniProt knowledgebase can give you information on cellular localization: http://www.uniprot.org/help/uniprotkb
Use the ID mapping tab to acquire UniProt IDs; Search the new IDs in the retrieve tab and then click the UniProtKB link at the top of the list to examine your results; Here you can customize the table to include Subcellular location; You can download the table and filter your proteins to eliminate cytoplasmic proteins.
