To correctly use the Bedding Plane Wizard in MIDAS GTS NX for creating soil layers (such as marl, sandy marl, and sand) that follow a 3D slope surface, start by ensuring your slope geometry is properly modeled. Then, open the Bedding Plane Wizard (Model > Geometry > Bedding Plane Wizard) and select the solid volume where layers will be applied. Choose ‘Surface’ as the bedding method, and select the sloped surface of your model as the reference surface—this ensures layers conform to the terrain. Enter each layer’s thickness in order from top to bottom, and set the bedding direction to ‘Normal to surface’ so the layers follow the slope rather than stacking vertically. Use the preview to check for errors; if layers appear flat or misaligned, confirm the correct surface was selected and the direction is perpendicular. Once satisfied, apply the changes. Afterward, assign material properties to each layer as needed.
