I think zoo plankton have the characteristic feature of avoiding that particular pollution by avoidance behaviour. Better you assess the macro-benthic organisms which will give you the picture about the pollution for a long period of time since these animals are non-motile. These organisms may be the good biological indicators for pollution assessment studies

Zooplankton are not reliable bioindicator of chemical contaminants as their quality and quantity highly influenced mostly by organic pollution. Higher zooplankton such Cladoceran, Copepods and Ostracods have higher tolerance capacity of metal contamination as compare to minute protozoans (Also zooplankton). ..........

Many Rotifers are well accustomed to handle the polluted waters and a few cladocerans. Marine Copepod is vastly documented in this era and you can google a few paper related to your choice of species and yes they can be a reliable source. Although some member suggested avoidance criterion but in highly influxed zones with tidal and upwelling activity its a rare opportunity to find a safe refuge for all times, perhaps they find its easier to acclimatize with the pollution through some adaptive mechanism.

Zooplankton can be used as biological indicators that are screening against environmental pollution (heavy metals, pesticides, persistent organic pollutants). However in terms of the interpretation of the results of laboratory analysis are not so accurately depict the actual amount or concentration that has entered the environment. It is caused by zooplankton has its own mechanisms to adapt to any changes and disturbances to their habitat environment.
Not the bioaccumulation issue, but copepod stock is an indicator of heavy metal.
Hi, I am convinced that they can indicate both, organic and inorganic pollution, especially when considering recurrent perturbations. I am writing a book chapter and working for an article that shows responses for some specific taxa and in ecological metrics like dominance and diversity been affected by copper pollution. Maybe in March the chapter must be published and so I will post the link in my profile (but it is in Portuguese).
