I stored a batch 100 ml Tween 80 in a beaker with aluminium foil cover. Two days later, when I tried to dissolve Tween 80 in water, it was absolutely insoluble and got a jelly texture of mass. It was soluble in ethanol though. What can be the reason?

It was very soluble in ethanol. And spontaneous as well. Product was packed on June 2016. So, its a new batch. From Himedia. Now, tried with new batch. Even that is not soluble

1. Tween 80 got dissolved in water on ultra sonication
2. And, on heating Tween 80 with water made no effect. And heating raw Tween 80 made it even more hard
I think you maybe used an adulterated grade of Tween 80 (HLB 15) as it is known that it's freely soluble in water and forms micelles (MicelleFormation).
@Ahmed I too doubt the same. Because the older stock is good in solubility. Thanks for the answers, scientists.
Tween products do not polymerize with themselves.
Over time ethoxylated products get oxidized (slowly), which usually makes them more soluble.
Aqueous solubility of ethoxylated surfactants maybe knocked out (cloud point temperature).
Tween-80 is easily soluble in water, soluble in ethanol, vegetable oil, ethyl acetate and methanol
