The compound I am ordering is offered as the Trifluoroacetic Acid Salt. I will use 25-100 uM concentrations of it, and in literature, I cannot find the toxicity of TFA to brain slices or cell lines. The custom synthesis company does not have this info either.
With such small concentrations, should I worry about the toxicity?
The other choice is to have it in HCL.
The compound is very expensive, so I don't want to fail with such things...

the best way to answer yours question is perform LDH or MTT test with yours cell line. when you do this, you will be know with concentration is toxic for the cells. LDH test from the Thermo Fisher is cheap and simple to use

TFA can be toxic to cell lines. Some studies found some negative effects on proliferation although they were not using neural cell lines but different ones. However, it would seem that the effect could be general and independent of the cell type (Cornish et al., 1999).
In terms of the concentration, I do not know. If it is totally necessary to use it, I would likely recommend you to test the compound in your cell culture at different concentrations and checking the cell viability as it was pointed out by Przemyslaw (MTT is fine to see mitochondria dysfunction).

In this case, I think I will ask the company to make HCl salt of this compound instead, because I have the cell lines in a frozen condition but the chemical need to be ordered this week...
