Islet (especially beta-cell) apoptosis is usually measured by TUNEL. Which phase is mainly chosen for watching the apoptosis phenomenon? (8-week？ 12-week？ or more？) Or just in their adult stage and age makes no difference for TUNEL outcome?

We usually look at 6 week and endpoint in our experiments. Most of our studies go for 6 weeks, so we would have animals available at 6 and 12 weeks for tunel. It really depends on what your question is. We want to look at young and healthy animals vs older diabetic animals and compare them, but that might not be your objective.

Thanks! Our animal model is knock-out mice and want to observe whether the target gene up regulate cell apoptosis level. What if drug-induced models(acute effect) ?
