The work that I have seen has performed monocular deprivation by suturing the eyelid shut. I would think that a mask would be problematic due to the high potential for the mask to be removed/destroyed by the mother, littermates, etc. If the mask is removed too soon, then your experiment is ruined for that animal.
Thanks Kevin for your suggestion. I guess most people are using suture or Vebond adhesive. We havejuest tried Vetbond for P10 mice and the eyes remained closed at P13 but not P15, so apparently the mice rubbed off the adhesive. I just worry the needle might demage the eyes during suturing, especially if we want to do it on small pups (P10-P15 or P21-P28).
