I am processing my MS results that were acquired in Orbitrap instrument and it seems that as soon as I start the analysis on MaxQuant, it crashes unexpectedly with any error reports. This has happened to me several times. I am attaching here my mqpar.xml for reference and it would be really helpful to get some pointers.
Details:
MaxQuant version 1.6.17.0 (i have also tried previous version but with little success).
PC configuration: Intel i5 vPro 8th Gen (if this helps)

Hi, did you try to utilize MZmine software? It supports a variety of raw data files acquired with different brands' instruments.
Have you been able to run this program before, or is this the first time you try it? What is your RAM? I think when it runs out of RAM it just crashes without any message. Maybe run with only one raw file to check that it does something with it, and while at it keep the task manager open in the performance tab to monitor memory usage.
The newer versions are more stable, but one trick I used to do before is to create the protocol and save the mqpar.xml file, then close and open the program, load mqpar, and start the analysis directly without going through the tabs.

I have 16GB RAM and have used this program before with no issues. It is only recently that I am facing this issue. I have tried both the latest and previous version with no luck.
I will give the trick you mentioned a try.
Simple things first - did you look into the combined/proc folder for any files named ".error"? Sometimes your can directly read the plain text reason why something does not work.
But having special characters in your path is always a bad idea for Maxquant.

I think I have figured out the issue. The reason was that maybe somehow MaxQuant is not able to different process files together.
I had 4 files running at the same time in a single session. 3 of those files were part of a fraction while the 4th one was an independent file. I think this made MaxQuant crash - which is very uncertain.
