Wrought Al is already extruded grade then why most of researcher are not using Al cast grade And very few researchers worked on cast Al grade during stir casting. If one can given insight on why wrought grade is used in preparing Al MMC then it will be very helpful.
Wrought Aluminium is generally pure (solely obtained from the market) with minimum processing impurities (due to mass production and quality control) compared to the cast Al grade ( generally discarded and reused a number of times and may possess dross, slag and non-metallic impurities due to subsequent melting/ solidification processes). Researchers prefer wrought Al to cater for minimal impurities or defects from the raw materials and study the effect of the processing.

In my opinion, in addition to what Mahmood Khan said, choosing a type of Al alloy as matrix in MMCs, relates to this fact that which performance we expect from produce an aluminum matrix composite. Everyone knows that wrought Al grades have different proper properties because of presence of different alloying elements. For example, In 2XXX, 5XXX and 7XXX we have Copper, Magnesium, and Zinc, respectively. So, to selecting a metal as matrix, the purpose could be accessing the particular mechanical properties.
To produce MMCs, I have selected A356 Al alloy as matrix which is an As-Cast Al alloy (hypo eutectic Al-Si Alloy) to improve the hardness and wear resistance of Al-Si alloy.
I agree with the previous analyzes, I would just like to add, that those aluminum alloys are the ones that are mostly recycled, and that regardless of that it would be prudent that in the use to investigate the foundry ones are not ruled out, since they can shoe in the simulation results due to the solidification ranges well explained by my colleagues.
I totally agree. Most of papers I see coming to IJMC on Al-MMC's are using wrought as host metal. The common ones are: 6061, 6063, 7045, 7075, and 2000 series. These are very difficult to cast, which is why most of the researchers use very simple shapes just to get test coupons. They also usually conduct only limited mechanical tests and focus on wear testing, which is of limited value to design engineers. These are mostly academic studies and they tend to cite each other's works. That is why a significant number get Transferred to other more materials orientated journals or Open Access. Very few look at can the MMC's developed be cast into complex shapes and can the material be re-processed. This is a BIG PROBLEM!!!!
