How many anchor screws are you using? I typically use 3 per rat and this is sufficient to keep the cap on for over a month. You can also use the surgical scapel to make etches in the surface of the skull to allow the dental cement to adhere better.
We use 5 screws, and put them all in at a slight angle (about 15 degrees) so that they are all angled towards the center of the brain so that vertical force won't take the head cap off.
I am using 5 screws, 2 frontal 2 parietal and 1 on occipital. The cap comes out with the screws and electrode around 20 days. any thing with the depth of the screws? ,
Thank you for the idea of using surgical scalplel to make etches. However, during dissection i found that, the implanted area in and around the skull is very soft compared to other area. is it ok to make etches or it may be because of some inflammation ? Any suggestion for this?
During the stereotaxic surgery, how do you stop the bleeding ? sometimes i observe more bleeding.
