I always read some online headlines in Arabic on an attractive issue and click the link and find no relation between the headline which comes to my mind and the news. They choose a headline to attract many readers and they do.
Let me give you an example to make the point clear.
I saw a link headlined "Obama is wearing a Yemeni dress" When I clicked the link, I found that the news is about "Mlaik Obama who is in Africa" and not about Barack Obama.
Another example is " Urgent News! the son of Saleh (the former president of Yemen) was killed". When I clicked the link, I found that the killed one is a son of another Saleh and not the son of president Saleh.

Dear Jamal, so far I am not familiar with this type of study. However, it can serve as an excellent topic and maybe you will find answers in connecting your question to the discourse analysis (Norman Fairclough). It is, among others, about the newspaper articles and the choices the editor or the writer has made in order to catch the readers' attention. This kind of titles can have this role and according to the discourse analysis they have connection with the society.

I once found this link https://journalistsresource.org/studies/society/internet/fake-news-conspiracy-theories-journalism-research. It might be helpful although it's not strictly research source. Take a look at it, it could be interesting.
Yes, me too some times encounter with this types of news. But when I click on it could not get the elaborate news. It links with other news or advertisement.

Gulbudin Hikmatyar is and influential political figure in my country. However, when I opened the link, I discovered that a civilian named Hikmatyar was killed. I felt irritated.
