I would like to screen various species of mosquitoes for the presence of dengue and chikungunya viruses/ antibodies in the field. I am looking for ICT like kits.
I believe you could try the dengue NS1 antigen test on crushed mosquitoes. The mosquitoes will have to be killed though. RT-PCR can be done, and we have done it, but this is not cost effective.
We did this done tine ago, but if I remember it well, we homogenized the mosquitoes and then extracted RNA for RT-PCR. You could try doing NS1with the homogenized mosquitoes.
Dengue virus is of RNA group so the mosquitoes should be transferred alive from the field to the Lab, or you must carry in Nitrogen Tank and in Lab put it in refrigerator -80 degree centigrade, then the virus will be isolated by Rt-PCR. As I know there is not any kit to identify the virus in the field
