There are a lot of factor that has to considered:

• Weight of the car
• Spring coefficient and damping must be calculated
• Type of setup you are looking into(Wishbone, pushrod etc)
• Caster and camber angle along with travel length

The list goes on as it is a vital part. As a student I could suggest you to try lotus suspension analysis.

this system is complicated and certainly needs calculation, you have into consideration many parameters, such as:  the vehicle weight, with traction or not, front or rear side of the vehicle, the vehicle service (car, truck, ...), all of these parameters you have to use in resistance of materials RDM of all components, i mean the spring, triangle, rubber of links arm
