Metaldehyde has been the main pesticide used for the control of the GAS. Iron phospahte and boric acid has also been used. Beyond these, is there any active research to find altenratives to these?
We have our own invasion of African snails in Cuba and we have been studying the best way to bring down their populations based on laboratory life-history traits and ecological follow-ups of the invaded localities. For us, chemical control is out of the question for several factors (economic, non-target endemic snails...). For now the best method is to actively track them and manually collect them all including juveniles and nests, but it is better right before the reproductive peaks. It is quite difficult anyway.
