APTT/PT measure thrombin activity in blunted clotting seconds, ultra-specific thrombin generation tests are at least 1000fold more sensitive and would reflect the real hemostasis state of the individual patient much better, allowing an earlier diagnosis of abnormal coagulation (within the first golden hours of the disease).  A combination of ultra-specific thrombin generation tests (RECA, INCA, EXCA) with new fibrinogen tests (FIFTA, FIATA) might be superior to APTT/PT.
