Transforming growth factor beta 1 has become a 'necessary evil' giving its role in normal homeostatic processes and pathophysiological states such as cancer. Many studies have focused on its inhibitors, particularly its receptors. However, little is known about agents that can interfere with its biosynthesis by depleting the precursors necessary for its formation.
