If you have not read the following paper earlier, I would urge you may refer to this. Its an interesting and informative that makes us alert on the issue of soil quality. Good day!
QUALITY SOIL MANAGEMENT OR SOIL QUALITY MANAGEMENT:PERFORMANCE VERSUS SEMANTICS R. E. Sojka, D. R. Upchurch and N. E. Borlaug" Advances in Agronomy, Vol.79,2003
It would be very difficult to establish world standard of soil quality, which would include all soils in relation to plant needs. E. g. soil pH - some crops require acid soils (blueberry) and other alkaline soils (alfalfa). So what is the world pH standard for soil pH? And organic matter content? The optimal level would be different for sandy and clayey soils, as the sands lack of clay mineral, which form a very durable and complex structure with humus. The soil bulk density depends on soil texture, organic matter content, soil structure etc. Consequently, the preparation of world standards of soil quality is possible, but such standards should be very extensive and detailed to reliable. Perhaps it is better to establish such standards at local level.
