I was wondering if there exists a widely used abbreviation for endogenous control (gene). Such as HKG and RG for Housekeeping and Reference Gene respectively. I have seen 'EC' used in McNeill et al. 2007 Evaluation and validation of candidate endogenous control genes for real-time quantitative PCR studies of breast cancer, but not much thereafter.

Agreed. (Un)fortunately (depending preferences) the MIQE guidelines banned the word HKG into the world of colloquial lab language. But this is another topic. I am curious whether 'EC' is the most accepted abbreviation for endogenous control (gene).
I would avoid using housekeeper genes as Mortiz suggested, not every normaliser will be a housekeeper-type of gene.
For example 18s RNA, does it make sense to call it housekeeper?
We use reference gene.
I've mostly seen HKG or reference gene (not abbreviated). For accuracy as well as readability, I think it's best to write out "reference gene" in full - then it's clear that you're talking about stable genes, independent of their housekeeping function(s), and you don't bog the reader down with yet another acronym.
