I have blood samples that were collected in heparin. The end goal is to work with the plasma, but I need to first remove the heparin from the blood. Any suggestions on how to proceed?

There are immobilized heparinase colums that are normally used to remove heparin from patient samples to get accurate prothrombin(clotting) times. I don't know if your samples are large enough to use these.

Siemens make a product called Hepzyme , which can remove up to 2U/ml of heparin. It is a powder you add 1ml plasma to , wait 15min at RT , then test .
I have never tried it on heparinsed collection tubes though. Robyn
