You can also explore logistic regression among others for the analysis. Please see my work entitled 'Yakubu, A. and Musa, I.S. (2008). An assessment of avian influenza awareness among households in Nasarawa State, Nigeria. Asia – Pacific Journal of Rural Development, 18 (1): 93-101. BANGLADESH'. i mean to ascertain the awareness level of farmers towards certain disease. in case of south India, the lack of awareness is the main reason for disease outbreak for eg: In case of FMD, the cattle owner is not aware about the importance of vaccination, whereas he is aware that the milk production will be reduced due to vaccination. due to which he hesitates to vaccine his cow.
is there a way to measure the awareness level of the cattle owners with respect to diseases affecting their cattle???
Congratulations. This is a very important research you are doing.
In my opinion I think you should make a questionnaire for you cattle owners, (owner, wife, children and workers), with questions such as ....
Do you vaccinate against FMD, how often, have you ever had a case, what other vaccinations do you do ....?
What do you do with your milk, sell, cheese, yoghurt, etc...?
How does the vaccination affect your production, what is your production, how much is the loss.... ?
How does FMD affect the cattle, symptoms, weight loss, milk loss, abortions...?
Is FMD contagious, can it affect humans and how...?
How much does the vaccine cost, is there Governmental aid, has there been FMD in your area, what are the chances of your cattle becoming infected ...?
With those sort of questions you should be able to measure and distinguish between the reality / illusions of your farmers and get them to think about the problem.
