Due to limited thermocouples installed on a pyrolysis reactor, the information shown in the attached picture is all I have. The air region acts as an insulator. Is there a way to estimate the temperature range of the pyrolysis region (shaded in red)?
Referring the area shown in the picture for the temperature coverage is observed for the process of Pyrolysis. However 1.The source side /installed sensors is one way to find out the range.2.Correlation between(Scaling )the rate of Pyrolysis and the temperature coverage region.
one might try numerical modelling - you got a fluid frontier bounded heated flow, air enters the reactor duct at 850 C and speeds/pressures of.... (find out some field data here), the air barrier is approx. ... C (field data....), inner tube diameter is..... (field data again ) and conditions on the boundary layer.. heat transfer with mass transport, fluid frontier.. and at the wall you have 300 C and you can assume some boundary layer thickness that is consistent with your approximation of the flow model in a tube of that diameter, that Reynolds number, etc. However due to the numerous unknown quantities maybe you can approximate some variation law from 850 to 300...start with linear and then add the forced convection... just a suggestion, Good Luck!

Alexandru is right to the extent that you may try numerical modeling, but the question is how ?
In general, this is a classic situation often faced in steady state modeling of reactors; particularly in case of "bulky reactors" requiring significant space and volume. A suggestion that may help follows:
If it is reasonable to assume that the pyrolysis region has an axial core maintained at 800C, and a cylindrical periphery at 300C, then the bulk may be divided into coaxial cylindrical shells - each of infinitesimal thickness; and each assumed to have an equilibrium temperature between 300-800C according to a gradient that needs to be figured out.
