Hi, I am not aware of a standard for 3D water uptake of composite laminates. To my knowledge it would be hard to use gravimetric measurements based methodology because of the likelihood of anisotropy of the diffusion coefficient. Nevertheless, may be it is possible to test in 1D diffusion for each laminate directions as per ASTM D 5229 on specimens isolated on all but two parallel surfaces and to find a generalized model such as 3D fickian law to compare results with 3D diffusion...
As stated by Laurent Cormier, it is actually difficult to determine the 3D anisotropic moisture diffusion law from a single set of experiments. The issue is that the contribution of a diffusion coefficient to the water uptake depends on the surface of the sample perpendicular to that diffusion direction.
