In our lab we use dsRNA to screen plant material for the presence of viral RNA. But however I have been getting inconsistent results. TRIZOL hasnt realy worked for me since it isolates Total RNA so am in a bit of a quagmire
Have a look at these articles. dsRNA isolation is a delicate experiment. since you're dealing with RNA, make sure that you're working in a RNAse free environment.

We use the RNeasy Mini Kit (see link below) for RNA isolation and it works quite well. I used to do TRIzol isolations, but the kit seems to give better results. I am not sure what your lab's funding situation is, but it may be worth the cost to save yourself the hassle. Best of luck.
@Christopher and @Smirnova well our budget is very limited. Its a service we offer to farmers so a kit will mean Higher cost...which farmers wont like at all...so it has to be "in house"
