I am looking for a simple way of fluorescently labeling surviving cells at the endpoint of an experiment. There are three requirements:

1) Staining should be possible by simply adding a solution to my wells and waiting.

2) It should not be necessary to remove the remaining dye/staining solution or wash the cells.

3) The dye should be retained by the stained cells even if I fix them with formaldehyde.

So far I only found dead-cell stains that kind of fit the bill, but nothing for live cells. I thought that maybe there are metabolic stains that might work, but so far I have not found anything useful.
