Recently in my practice, I have noticed some women who have high anithyroid antibodies(Hypothyroid on T4) and vitamin D insufficiency have been high TSH despite increased dose of T4. I will try to study this association in coming days.

There are reports on this issue, and a know connection between bone and thyroid. But do you know wether they have intact PTH-secretion and so on? well definitely recently the role of vitamin D HAS BEEN REEMPHASIZED and specially with autoimmune diseases but coming to your question regarding after thyroidectomy and patient not responding to replacement eltroxine if only vit d is helpful alone i am not sure as in these autoimmune diseases recently role of PD1 and PDL1A has been emphasized and polymorphisms of these have been highlighted in multiple autoimmune diseases and that maybe part of the reason for it to occur as in type 1 dm ,multiple sclerosis,rheumatoid arthritis etc although adding vitd can be tried  AND i came across a case of IGG4 RELATED autoimmune thyroiditis which had antibodies and such conditions need to be ruled out and maybe wysolone may work along with eltroxne and vit d may be incidental here .or may work.

i thought the discussion was pertaining to how vit d corelates with thyroid deficiency  aollowing patients of autoimmune thyroidectomy not responding to eltroxine and if any corelation with vit d deficiency-the only thing by which obesity can corelate is the recent corelation of obesity with hypothyroidism and leptin resistance and altered thyroid status but otherwise i dont see any relevance to this discussion.

I was more concerned with patients who have had a thyroidectomy for a non-toxic goitre who were unresponsive to thyroxine [T4] and found to be vitamin D deficient. I am sorry if my initial question was unclear to my colleagues

My TSH level is more than 5 (5.11) but T3 (0.93) and T4 (6.04) are normal , that means i have Hypothyroidism. I want to " If thyroid hormone is elevated then how it back to normal ? Do you have any suggestion? "

i agree with tahir although in india since the concept of hypovitaminosis d came i cfound all drs doing unnecessary vitamin loevels like yesterday i got a poor infertility pt who had got unnecessary eltroxine started and all vitamin B12 ,D etc done but no RELEVANT TESTS FOR HER recurrent missed abortions so one needs to individualize therapy and investigations and not blanket testing for each and every patient

The pleiotropic roles of vitamin D have been recognized through preclinical and observational studies which have suggested a beneficial role of vitamin D in the management of thyroid disease. However, epidemiological studies simply show correlative relationships which cannot be used to determine cause and effect. Low vitamin D status may be not the cause but rather a consequence of the disease. The low vitamin D levels of patients with thyroid diseases can be explained by low vitamin D intake, malabsorption, lack of sun exposure, or reduced outdoor activity. Because of these and other factors, the preventive and therapeutic potential of vitamin D or its analog in thyroid diseases is still debatable and unresolved.

Further one has to take into account the geographical area from whgere patient is with higher vitamind deficiency seen in european countries with low sunlight commonly accesible and hence com on vit d deficiency in contrast to areas where we good sun light although now we are well informed about role of vitamin d besides in thyroid many cellular functions ,including in postmenopausal women and if hypothyroid aggravates post menopausakl osteoporosis hence importance of individualization.

My son's thyroid was radiated by cancer treatment. My niece has recently had her thyroid removed due to cancer. I am very interested in any knowledge on this subject.

although this needs replacement therapy this is separate from the topic of Vitamin D deficiency in relation to hypothyroidism band suppose adding Vitamin D might not be that helpful as here if totally thyroid tissue damaged vitamin D might not help any extra although it depends on howmuch residual tnhyroid function ldeft following radiotherapy but as far as total removal in niece only replacement therapy needed
