I am already working with invitrogen cell tracker but I am not satisfied with the product and also the product is very expensive. I want to mark/label the rpe cell in the direct co-culture system. The fluorescent cell tracker must be maintained in the cell for a longer period (1 to 2 months) and must not be passed to adjacent cells (must not leak) in the co-culture system. I would like to know the name and trade mark of some cells tracker if it is well suited to this type of experiment. It also must not be toxic to cells.
For live cell work, infection of your cells with a virally-encoded fluorescent marker is usually the best route. If you do not need longitudinal measurements, then immunofluorescence using species-specific and/or tissue-specific antibodies might be another feasible option.
Some parameters that might help in deciding the best path..
1) What type of imaging, if any, will you perform during the experiment (magnification, 2D or 3D co-cultures, do you need to image the entire cytoplasm, or just cellular position)?
2) What cell types are you working with (species, tissue, cell line vs primary)?

Very impressive, Anders! However, I imagine Amar may want to check on the progress of his cultures periodically (once a day or every few days), and it appears the holographic imaging requires continuous tracking of cells. Nonetheless, this looks like a fantastic technology for continuous, real-time, non-invasive cell tracking.
