Can some one send me a practical positive result(s) in ecological restoration that is (are) obtained from the application of AMF. i read some article regarding some good experience in Spain (Barea et al). are there more of such examples? is the role of AMF in ecological restoration a practical one or its just a myth? many thanks in advance.
Yes , AMF could play a vital role in rejuvenating the degraded land . AMF through the establishment of extraradical mycelial network ( called ERM ) release soil related glycoprotein (callled GRSP) that cements/enmesh the soil particles to stabilize further the loose soil aggregates ( A characteristic feature of degraded soils). So the role of AMF could be visualised through soil aggregate formation and its stabilization using a whole range of AMF species. And if right choice for selection of tree species is made keeping in mind the nature and properties of degraded soils( Since the definition of degraded soils is loosely used) depending upon the rainfall and temperature range , those trees will be metabolically more active in AMF-inoculated degraded soils.
Many many thanks dear Srivastava.however, my question goes a bit further. the theoretical role and potential of AMF is amazing, i know. there are so many publications as well.however, i need to know if there are tested results on the field that can be shared here.it is my hope that we will get some real experinece shared here

The most visible effect of AMF was observed in Coffee, even in areas where the soil is deficit in P and other key nutrients. Enjoy the attached review, though few years old.
Although you appear primarily to be interested in tree crops, your reference to Spain stimulates me to refer to the long and wide experience with clovers inoculated with Rhizobium to restore soil fertility.

No doubt AMF are essential for many species. A more fundamental question, and one that is still open, is how important is mycorrhizal inoculation for successful restoration. I believe that there is some evidence that even without inoculation, mycorrhizal spores arrive at most sites on their own. Perhaps inoculation is more 'necessary' in tropical sites?, but I think that the appropriate research/meta-analysis has not really been done.

Hi Doctor Fisseha Belay I am Brazil researcher here and there research showing that MFA benefits the development of various species and favors the recovery of degraded areas. We investigated the primary succession of ectomycorrhizal fungi in post-mining sites and could show that an inoculation made no sense because it takes only a few weeks for the fungi to reach the sites on their own. For AMF we didn´t test it and all the studies I know were done by companies which were producing inoculum thus they were not independent. Nevertheless, be sure that the inoculated fungi can grow in your substrate and that there are no AMF present, otherwise your inoculum will be displace by the stand adapted fungi within weeks.
Dear Dr Wollecke,you have just raised a very good point.i have also learned this from a microbiology professor during a coffee discussion. he told me the AMF inocula wont persist and there is no such effect as AMF inoculation effect.
however Dr,as you can see above the post by Warrier is very interesting! what do you make of it?don't you trust the result?
