I think you do not need to expect the Earth to fall into the Sun anytime soon. It seems to have been gravitationally stabilized for  the past many billion years on its approximate current orbit and although the complete explanation has not yet been found, nothing indicates that this equilibrium state is going to change.

It has been observed however that the velocity of the Earth about the sun has been slowly decreasing for as long as observations have been made.

In the 1950's, as the precision and stability of caesium atomic clocks was being compared to the assumed stability of the Earth`s rotation rate, it was discovered that this rate is measurably higher during northern hemisphere summer, when the Earth reaches its farthest point from the Sun, namely the aphelion, than during winter as the Earth reaches its closest point to the Sun, namely the perihelion, on its elliptical orbit.

So there is a annual cycle of slowing down and speeding up. which is due to the Earth orbit being elliptical. While the Earth is moving away from the sun for 6 months, its velocity diminishes, when it is getting closer during the following 6 months, its velocity increases.

During the same experiment, It was discovered that the Earth rotation rate was slowly and steadily decreasing year after year, related to a progressive widening of the orbit.

Similarly, this could possibly be related to the fact that the Earth and the whole Solar system is involved in the much longer cycle of the orbit that our Solar system moves on about the centre of our Galaxy!

Our galactic “year” is estimated to last between 225 and 250 million years. Our galactic orbit is approximately 5 times more eccentric than that of the Earth about the Sun.

From the figures available, we are approximately 15 million years from the our closest point to the center of the galaxy.

Since there is more matter in the galactic environment when we get closer to the center than when we are at the furthest point, it is very likely that all components of the solar system are drawn more strongly outwards, which could increase the mean radius of all solar system orbits, Including that of the Moon, which has also been confirmed as increasing its orbital radius, thus also slowing down.

If this slowing down is really linked to our galactic orbit, then starting in 15 million years, we should all sigh in relief as we start speeding up again for the following half galactic year.

That post is wrong.

The rotational speed of the Earth around its own axis may be falling. The moon's effect will sap the rotational energy, not the orbital speed.

That is false too.

The Earth is *always* in the grip of the Sun's gravity - it just so happens to also have momentum around the Sun and unless you remove that momentum, there is no (repeat no) way to 'fall into the Sun'

It is a good question you ask, as there is some confusion around orbitals. It seems we don't have a good understanding yet. We know the moon is receding slowly from the earth and the tides have been blamed for this, but I think it is a much more fundamental question that needs to be answered. 

We know that distances between bodies on a large scale is  increasing, this could mean;

a) that the universes potential is increasing or

b) that the observers potential is falling. 

I personally never believed a) because for potential to be increasing energy has to come from somewhere, and we know of no such sources. That leaves b) which is us the observer falling, well that makes much more sense, because we are standing on earth, which contains a lot of Uranium, Thorium and Potassium, these elements are in a state of constant decay, their nuclei emit a gamma ray and fall to a lower potential. the same happens in stars when Hydrogen undergoes fusion, the nuclei fuse and fall to lower potentials. So we look up and when we realise how everything we see is in a state of falling potential, one wonders why everyone chose to believe in an expanding universe?

Psychologically I guess it is nicer to think of the world as expanding, but logically it makes no sense. 

So if my argument is correct, you are absolutely right in assuming that the distance between all heavenly bodies is increasing, not just the earth moon system but all free falling bodies.

The core of the Earth is rotating at different speeds, speeding up and slowing down frequently, and this movement is not synchronized with the remaining mass of the planet.

Not only the rate of rotation of the nucleus is different from the mantle, the layer that is below the Earth's crust, but that, in addition, his speed is variable.

It has been able to deduce that in comparison with the mantle, the core was rotating at a higher rate in the Decade of 1970s and 90s, but slowed in the 80s.

One of the methods of analysis is through a novel method, based on recording the Doublets earthquakes of the past 50 years to measures the speed of the rotation of the Earth core.

The of Doublets earthquakes are two earthquakes of almost identical magnitude that can register in a period ranging from a few weeks to 40 years, and that they differ from the replicas. Each pair has a slight difference, and this corresponds to the core speed.

In relation to the above should also be considered that the densities of the internal layers of the Earth are different and therefore dynamic forces are generated (producing a kind of internal tides) by the gravitational influence of the Moon and other members of the solar system.

In physics, let us remember that in an inertial system angular momentum conservation is verified, but for the above reasons, we know that the movement of the Earth's rotation is not uniform, it continually tends to regain its equilibrium position.
