There appears to be some movement towards 'efficient' teaching approaches such as direct instruction and short term data cycles. I can see some small value but am concerned that the human needs in learning are being lost to efficiency. Learning is not a purely functional endeavour. There is a pleasure side to learning, evident in problem based and contextual approaches that is at risk of being lost. The efficiencies may end up being lost to low motivation.
