Most cancers are detected when they cause symptoms that lead to medical evaluation. Unfortunately, in too many cases this results in diagnosis of cancers that are locally invasive or already metastatic and hence no longer curable with surgical resection or radiation treatment. Medical therapies, which might be curative in the setting of minimal tumor burden, typically provide more limited benefit in more advanced cancers, given the emergence of drug resistance.

I think the current trend is to depend on bioinformatics, pharmacogenetics and molecular marker to screen for many different cancers.
Besides, the use of pharmacogenetics have shown to significantly improve therapeutic efficacy and to reduce unwanted side effects (especially chemotherapy).
Two essential approaches:
1. Effective screening strategies, and
2. Nanomedicine as used in cancer immunotherapy.

HCC Screening either conventionally or expected molecularly is necessary not only for early HCC diagnosis also for liver function surveilance. For the time being population based screening cannot be recomended, however patients with high risk factors such as hepatitis, alcohol abuse , obesity, diabetes etc should be followed for HCC Development. In the near future molecular screening will be available not only for a single type of cancer but for a group of cancers, then population based screening will prove to be effective
