Nothing scientific to support you but agree with your statement. If you like listening to Linken Park , there is a song "Given Up"...one of lines Chester spells is " I am my own worst enemy"
YES i believe whatever we are developing, we are also bringing it down.
If we take a look at our body ; it looks that an organization with a hierarchy. The brain and the heart are located at the top of the hierarchy. Because they are vital and important both of them are protected respectively by the skull and the thorax. They are suposed to lead the lower part of the body that are linked to our natural needs. The brain is supposed to help us think to make the right decisions and the heart is supposed to control our emotions. On the other hand; animals are guided by their instincts but man has brain to think and is free to make choices. Nowadays; I have the impression that many people has chosen to walk on their hands . This is why man is now a self- destructive creature.
Arguments can definitely be made to shed more lights on the insatiable and selfish needs of man. I will rather tilt to the optimistic instead of the pessimistic side, knowing fully well that we are complex beings.
Man does not prefer to be a destructive being that he has his family , his responsibility & as human beings he has to contribute something for his self which may offering a successive pathway of the life . Examples are not unknown that human beings take recourse to destructive being does he does not control his mind for the unfortunate problem he is facing which help him to take recourse to negative tendency of his life .
Looking at the development of all types of industry, the development of weapons of mass destruction, wars, murders and suicides, the emergence of various epidemics and pandemics, in my opinion I think that man is going to self-destruction. I would not be pessimistic, unfortunately, but a man as an individual is not asking much about global things. "Everything that has its beginning, must have its end," I think it is clear to everyone, what I want to say.
But I respect someone else's opinion. Nice regards.
The history of civilization shows that larger and larger areas could be united into war-free zones. With a bit of good will, Lampsacus hometown of humankind on the Internet can be implemented within a matter of weeks.
