I have a graphite ink sample. Average crystallite size calculated from XRD is about 15 times smaller than that of La calculated from Raman spectrum. What can be the possible reason? Should these two values be the same? Can anyone here please clarify the difference between the two?
Dear Keya,
when appyling the Scherrer equation, the instrumental broadening of your XRD system has to be substracted from peak widths prior to application of Scherrer formula. Do you have done that accordingly?

First of all what is La? is it lattice parameter or crystallite size estimated by Raman analysis, I think one can calculate crystallite size of any diffraction plane only from the XRD patterns, in order to calculate crystallite size, we need FWHM, diffraction angle, wavelength of irradiated radiation so that diffraction angle is necessary to calculate while in Raman spectrum, no diffraction angle is there, however, we can calculate FWHM of Raman peak intensity which tells us about the micro-strains or defects produced in the deposited films, the strength of Raman peak intensity tells us about the bonds formation and their strength, i think we may not calculate the crystallite size with Raman analysis,
